Moreau made her stage debut at the age of 19 at the Avignon Festival. In 1962, 'New Wave' director François Truffaut cast her in 'Jules et Jim,'s which earned her international success.

She would go on to work with some of the finest filmmakers in cinema like Louis Malle, Jean-Luc Godard, Michelangelo Antonioni, Orson Welles, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Luis Buñuel, among others.

Her career spanned seven decades and nearly 150 film and TV roles, establishing her as the thinking man's femme fatale. As a matter of fact, Orson Welles once called Moreau 'the greatest actress in the world.'
