PHAEDRA nominated for Theatre Olympics 2018

PHAEDRA, a production of Theatre and Performance Studies of the University of Dhaka, has been nominated by National School of Drama for the 8th Theatre Olympics 2018. It is scheduled to be held from February 17 to April 8, 2018, in India.

Directed by Professor Dr Israfil Shaheen, Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, Dhaka University, the drama is performed by the second semester MA students, who are, Abdur Razzak, Shakhwat Islam, Sanwarul Haw, Tonmoy Paul, Shankar Kumar Biswas, Rony Das, Israt Jahan Moutushi, Umme Hani, and Umme Sumaiya.

When asked how this achievement would play a significant role in elevating the theatre arena of Bangladesh, Dr Shaheen says, "I believe that this opportunity would act as a source of inspiration for our youths to be drawn towards theatrical activities and also, consider taking it upon as a line of occupation. Besides, it's high time that the misconception regarding Olympics only being related to sports activities needs to be broken."
